REVIEW: THE IVY CARDIFF’S AUGUST A LA CARTE MENU

Recently, we were kindly invited by ‘The Ivy Cardiff’ to taste their ‘August A La Carte Menu’ - And spoiler alert, we absolutely loved it!

On arrival, we were welcomed by the amazing staff who were all so friendly and did everything they could to make the experience memorable for us. We went along for a three course meal and a couple of drinks.

To start off we ordered a glass of the whispering Angel rosé which was really sweet and fruity, pairing well with both the warm weather and our starters. Definitely our new favourite rose. This was £12.50 per glass.

Next up were our Spritz’s, We tried both the aperol Spritz, and the campari spritz, safe to say we’ll definitely be ordering those again next time. Both of these were £11 each which isn’t bad at all for a high end restaurant like the Ivy. The absolute perfect summery drinks!

For Starters…

Next we were presented with our starters. We tried the Crab and Avocado Tian which was stunning both presentation wise and taste wise, this was undoubtedly the highlight of our meal. We would go back to the Ivy just to get this again. Absolutely Delicious. The crab and avocado tian was £13.95 which is a very fair price for what we received.

We then ordered the goats curd salad, which was sweet, creamy and extremely light. Which came presented in the shape of a flower, topped with a beautiful assortment of colourful edible flowers. The ideal summer starter, and a true masterpiece. For £9.50 you can’t go wrong.

Next were our mains…

We had the Lamb Pappardelle which was the best tasting dish of the day, the pasta itself was perfectly cooked and the lamb gave the ragu sauce a strong meaty flavour. This was £17.95.

We also ordered the Lobster Linguine which was amazing, we’re not usually huge seafood people but the tomato sauce balances out the flavours really well, the flavours were enhanced once we added the lemon, oil and chilli flakes that came alongside the dish, it elevated it immensely! The portion size for this were very big too so if you’re a big eater like us then this is the dish for you! This dish was £34.95.

Then came desserts…

For dessert we ordered the chocolate bombe which was INCREDIBLE, it even had popping candy inside which was a surprise. Plus it came with a bit of a display, so what’s not to like? This dish was £9.95 which is an amazing price for what you get!

We also went for the Crème Brûlée which is our absolute favourite dessert, and this lived up to the hype. For £8.50 this dessert was THE BEST. It even came with a Bara Brith Aberffraw biscuit which was a lovely little welsh touch.

To end the meal, we had two gorgeous americanos with milk which were £4.25 each.

And speaking of welsh touches look at all of the amazing welsh references around the restaurant. It’s really nice to see restaurants acknowledge that they’re in Wales and proud of it, especially a franchise as big as the Ivy, from the huge dragon statue above the bar to the unique paintings dotted around the restaurant. We really loved it.

Thank you to The Ivy Cardiff for the invite
